Fantasia (1941)

The Rome Capitol Theatre, 220 West Dominick Street, Rome, will screen WALT DISNEY’S FANTASIA, Saturday, April 15 at 2:30 and 7:00PM

Special to the matinee screening will be an inter-active musical instrument “petting zoo,” commencing at 1:45. Children (and adults) will have the opportunity to see and touch actual musical instruments, and to find out how they work!

Walt Disney’s extraordinarily ambitious undertaking of merging animated images with symphonic music was a milestone when it came out in 1940. The quintessential “big screen” movie (recorded in multi-channel stereo—another innovation for the period) will be shown on the Capitol’s 20-ft. high screen in a new 4K digital restoration directly from Walt Disney Studios. Part of the Capitol’s continuing salute to the 100th anniversary of Walt Disney Productions. Among the famous highlights of the movie are “The Dance of the Hours” (with dancing hippos and crocodiles), “The Rite of Spring” (with dinosaurs), and Mickey Mouse in “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” The soundtrack is provided by the Philadelphia Orchestra under the direction of Leopold Stokowski, and musicologist Deems Taylor provides the narration.

The evening show will feature pre-show music by John Paul on the Capitol Theater Möller organ from 6:30 until the 7:00 show time.

This screening of Fantasia is made possible through a grant from Stewart’s Holiday Match Fund. Stewart’s Holiday Match Fund customers have helped raise over $36 million for thousands of organizations since the program’s inception in 1986.
