The Capitol Arts Complex, 220 West Dominick Street, Rome, is on the lookout for talent. The arts complex has opened its doors for performers from all walks of life to audition for “CNY Onstage Live”, a variety show presented on the Capitol Theatre stage, and recorded live for a future TV broadcast. The live show will be on Saturday, May 10 at 7pm.

Professional and amateur talent are invited to submit their auditions at no cost. The call is open to various acts, including singers, dancers, comedians, magicians, jugglers, performance artists and more. The goal is to create a diverse line-up that showcases the wealth of talent in the community.

“CNY Onstage Live” will give performers a unique opportunity to showcase their talents on a grand stage, complete with a professional concert light and sound system. “This is a chance for talents to shine under the spotlight, sharing their passion with a live audience and TV viewers throughout central New York.” Explains Rick E. Lewis, Marketing Manager at the Capitol Arts Complex. The performances will also be available to view online streaming, on a date to be announced.

The Blues Brothers of Central New York will host the show. Local favorite band “Showtime” will be the house band for the night. One of the new additions to this year’s show is the opportunity for singers to get onstage perform with Showtime as the backing band. Singers can audition on Wednesday nights at Franca’s on Dominck Street in Rome starting March19 through April 16 or by uploading a video to romecapitol.com.

Rick E. Lewis, the Marketing Manager of Capitol Arts Complex, also explains, “This is a unique opportunity for local talent to get exposure on a concert stage and light system. If you have seen any of the recent concerts, you’ve heard and seen what to expect from the production for that night. We encourage performers of all ages and backgrounds to audition. It’s a great chance to share your talent and passion with an audience on a grand professional stage.”

He added that entries so far have include comedian Michel Terry, dancers, school choirs from Strough, multi instrumentalist Jess Novak, hot off her band’s recent SAMMY Award for best pop album for their EP entitled “Woman”, singer Arwen Reddick  and people with no professional experience who just like to perform. Some performers will be returning, like the Academy of Performing and Creative Arts vocal group “Pulse”, and 11 year old, now 12, Kyla Sommerville.

“Last year we had 11 year old Kyla Somerville walk onto the stage and blow away the audience with a fantastic vocal performance of the song ”As the Word Caves In”, a song made famous by Sarah Cothran. The song features a couple realizing they are experiencing the final days of the Earth due to nuclear destruction. Quite a heady song for one so young-not just the lyrical content, but also the vocal performance. She’ll be back this year!”

Entertainment Services will be supplying a state-of-the-art concert sound and lighting system in the Capitol Theatre. Entertainment Services President Bill DiPaulo explains, “Seeing local talent on a professional stage with full concert lights and sound allows the talent to shine. Most of the people performing don’t often get a chance to be on such a big platform. Having professional support makes the event truly memorable for the performers and the audience.”

To submit an audition, interested performers are asked to visit www.romecapitol.com. The process is straightforward and there are no charges involved. Regardless of whether you’ve been performing for years or just discovered your talent, this is your chance to step into the limelight.

Capitol Arts Complex has always been committed to promoting and nurturing talent. During May, the Capitol Arts Complex will present the “Local Arts and Music Showcase” and feature several events providing a platform for local artists and performers to shine.
